A friend of mine had some black silk. She wanted me to make her this scarf with a bleached tree. I suggested the tree be black and the background bleached instead. She insisted on the tree being lighter. I created some stencils and placed them on the silk. It was a strange day where the weather couldn’t seem to make up it’s mind! Outside in the sunshine I sprayed bleach over the stencilled silk while a thunderstorm raged in the field across the road less than 100 meters away. I then hung them on the hammock to dry and washed them 3X to remove any excess bleach. Only made 12, each one different, including the one with the bleached out tree, which of course my friend didn’t want after seeing the others. I still want to play with dying the bleached areas in greens and blues and pinks to look more like northern lights although they remind me of sunrise and a great cup of coffee.
Those socks caused me no end of frustration as over the months I pointed them out to several friends asking them ‘What the hell am I supposed to do with these?’ I researched online and sketched out ideas for weeks trying to come up with something. They all think this is just hilarious now as they see me going crazy trying to meet the demands.
But the socks are only one of a bunch of things friends and family bring me. I went out to the barn last night and on a table is an entire bolt of black tulle fabric. I have no idea how it got there or who brought it. There is also a resin whicker looking love seat in my barn this week. Again I have absolutely no idea how it got there! Things seem to just appear and beg to be repurposed or created.

In the spring I gathered some small leaves from the two beautiful mature silver maple trees in my front yard. I then created plaster moulds from the leaves and cast them in porcelain. I loved the texture and warmth of the porcelain in it’s raw state so I left these beauties unglazed. The raw porcelain will absorb a few drops of your favourite scent so you can enjoy it though out the day. The silver bezel clasp holds the pendant on to the 3 mm adjustable (12″-24″) white leather cord so you can wear it at any length.
